On 11/27/2024 Cpl. Butcher, Cpl. Curry, Deputy Gatewood, Deputy Burns, and Deputy Cisneros along with K9 Ranger and K9 Odin responded to a reported subject with a gun call in Walkertown. Upon arrival, the suspect had already left the area on foot, and was reported to be armed with a pistol. During the course of the investigation, contact was made with him via cell phone. The suspect made threats to kill law enforcement multiple times if he came into contact with him. Deputies utilized K9 teams, pings from his ankle monitor, and drones to locate him in the area. Once his approximate location was determined multiple call outs were made to him without success. Deputies then decided to advance on foot toward the sounds of his ankle monitor that was emitting a constant alarm due to Probation activating it. The suspect held the tactical advantage, and many times due to the landscape and terrain there was minimal to no cover provided to deputies. However, all involved maintained their respective positions and continued to advance. The suspect was located in a dense thicket along the side of a roadway, however refused to come out or show his hands. After brief negotiations, the suspect made his hands visible and deputies were able to advance to him and secure him without incident. This team worked cohesively together to bring this person into custody without any harm to law enforcement or the community. Due to their persistence, diligence, and commitment, they are acknowledged as Staff Members of the Month.
