Athena’s Run for GYN Cancers is an inaugural 5k run and 1-mile survivor’s run/walk to celebrate, honor and lift up the women affected by gynecologic cancers. Our mission is to increase public awareness about gynecologic cancers and raise funds to support education, advocacy, care and research. Our vision is to end gynecologic cancers through prevention, early detection and effective treatment.
Athena’s Run will take place on Saturday morning, October 30th, at Tanglewood Park (Shelter #4) in Clemmons, NC. The event is presented in partnership with the Derrick L. Davis Forsyth Regional Cancer Center (FRCC), and is being planned by a community collaboration of FRCC clinicians, patients, family members and friends. Race direction is provided by the Twin City Track Club of Winston-Salem.
Each year 80,000 women of all ages are diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer – and over 28,000 women die annually from these deadly diseases. Funds raised through Athena’s Run will launch a GYN cancer fund at Forsyth Medical Center Foundation. These funds will be used locally and nationally to support education and advocacy for gynecologic cancers; care of women to prevent, detect and treat gynecologic cancers; and national research efforts.
